Neurofeedback
Gold Coast

If you have ever felt like your brain is stuck in overdrive, unable to switch off at night, struggling to concentrate, or constantly reactive to stress, the problem may not be a lack of willpower. It may be a pattern in how your brain is actually functioning.

This is where neurofeedback comes in, and it is why we are excited to introduce Mindlift neurofeedback at Wave Functional Health in Robina. Neurofeedback is not about masking symptoms. It is a form of brain training that helps your nervous system learn healthier patterns of activity over time.

Brain training

What is neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback, also known as EEG biofeedback, measures your brainwave activity in real time and feeds that information back to you through visual and auditory cues. Sensors placed on the scalp read electrical activity, and this is translated into feedback such as a video or game that responds directly to your brain state.

When your brain produces patterns associated with calm, focused states, the feedback is positive. When it drifts into patterns associated with distraction, stress, or dysregulation, the feedback shifts. Across repeated sessions, the brain learns to reinforce the healthier pattern, in much the same way a muscle learns to fire more efficiently through training.

This is fundamentally different to medication or supplementation. Rather than introducing an external substance, neurofeedback works by teaching the brain to self-regulate, using its own natural capacity for change, known as neuroplasticity.

Non-invasive and drug-free

Sensors read electrical activity from the scalp. Nothing is inserted into the brain or body.

Personalised protocol

Training is built from your own quantitative EEG assessment, not a generic template.

Complements functional medicine

Works alongside gut, hormone, and nervous system testing already used at Wave.

Decades of clinical use

Applied across clinical, educational, and performance settings worldwide.

Our technology

Why we chose Mindlift

At Wave Functional Health, we use Mindlift neurofeedback, both as a standalone therapy and as part of our broader functional medicine programmes. For patients who have addressed the biochemistry but still feel stuck in a dysregulated nervous system, it is often the piece that changes everything.

Understanding the process

How Neurofeedback Works

Neurofeedback influences brain function through a structured learning process. Understanding the mechanism helps explain why the applications are so broad.

01

Brain mapping

A quantitative EEG assessment maps your unique brainwave activity across different regions of the brain, identifying the specific patterns contributing to your symptoms before any training begins.

02

Real time feedback

Sensors monitor your brain activity while you engage with a video, sound, or game. Your brain receives immediate feedback about which patterns are being reinforced in real time.

03

Reinforcement learning

When your brain produces the target pattern, it receives positive feedback. Over repeated sessions, this reinforcement helps the brain learn to produce that pattern more consistently on its own.

04

Lasting self-regulation

As training progresses, the healthier pattern becomes the brain's new baseline, reducing reliance on ongoing sessions and supporting change that holds over time.

Who we work with

Who can benefit from neurofeedback?

Focus and cognitive performance

Many adults and children struggling with attention and concentration find that neurofeedback helps improve sustained focus without relying solely on stimulant medication.

Sleep quality

If your brain struggles to downshift at night, neurofeedback can help retrain the patterns associated with deep, restorative sleep that medication alone cannot restore.

Stress and anxiety

Chronic stress keeps the nervous system locked in a sympathetic fight-or-flight state. Neurofeedback helps build the brain's capacity to shift back into a parasympathetic rest-and-digest state more easily.

Post-concussion and brain injury recovery

Neurofeedback is increasingly used to support recovery of normal brain function following head trauma where standard rehabilitation has plateaued.

Performance optimisation

Athletes, executives, and high performers use neurofeedback to sharpen mental clarity, emotional control, and resilience under pressure when performance margins matter.

Emotional regulation

For those who feel easily overwhelmed, reactive, or stuck in negative thought loops, neurofeedback can support a calmer, more balanced baseline over time.

Common presentations

Does this sound like you?

The brain is not a fixed organ. Neuroplasticity — the brain's capacity to form and reorganise connections in response to experience — means that dysregulated patterns can be retrained. Neurofeedback is a direct, targeted way to leverage this capacity.

For patients already working with Wave on gut health, hormone balance, or HPA axis dysfunction, neurofeedback is often a natural and powerful addition. The gut-brain axis and the stress response are deeply intertwined, and addressing brain regulation alongside internal biochemistry often produces better outcomes than either approach alone.

If your brain has been working overtime to compensate for imbalances elsewhere in the body, neurofeedback gives it direct, targeted support to relearn healthier patterns as we address the root causes through nutrition, supplementation, and lifestyle change.

Does this sound like you?

Your brain cannot seem
to switch off.

You feel wired but exhausted and cannot wind down at night
Your concentration and focus have noticeably declined
You feel easily overwhelmed or reactive to stress that you used to handle easily
Your sleep is light, disrupted, or unrefreshing regardless of hours spent in bed
You experience brain fog, word-finding difficulty, or cognitive slowing
You feel stuck in negative thought loops or emotional patterns you cannot shift

Your experience

What to expect during a session

STEP 01

Brain mapping assessment

Your first visit includes a comprehensive quantitative EEG brain mapping assessment. This gives us a clear picture of your unique brainwave activity across different regions and helps us design a training protocol tailored specifically to your nervous system. No two brains are the same and neither are two protocols.

STEP 02

Personalised training sessions

Sessions typically last 30 to 45 minutes. You sit comfortably while sensors monitor your brain activity and you engage with feedback through a video, sound, or game that responds to your brain state in real time. There is no discomfort involved. Many people find the sessions deeply relaxing.

STEP 03

Progressive results over time

Most patients notice subtle shifts within the first several sessions. Meaningful, lasting change typically develops over 20 to 40 sessions depending on your goals and starting point. Because neurofeedback works through learning rather than a one-time fix, consistency matters and we will guide your schedule throughout.

The Wave approach

Neurofeedback within a functional medicine framework

At Wave Functional Health we rarely look at any single system in isolation. Brain function does not exist separately from gut health, hormone balance, inflammation, or nervous system regulation. This is why we integrate neurofeedback alongside our other assessments and therapies rather than offering it as a standalone intervention.

For many patients, the brain has been working overtime to compensate for imbalances elsewhere in the body. As we address the root causes through nutrition, targeted supplementation, and lifestyle changes, neurofeedback gives the brain direct, targeted support to relearn healthier patterns more efficiently.

The combination of functional medicine and neurofeedback at Wave represents a genuinely integrated approach to brain health that addresses both the biochemical environment the brain operates in and the patterns it has learned to run on.

What we combine neurofeedback with
HRV analysis to track autonomic nervous system balance and recovery
Functional stool testing to address gut-brain axis dysfunction
DUTCH hormone testing to identify HPA axis dysregulation driving brain symptoms
Frequency Specific Microcurrent to support nervous system regulation directly
Functional blood chemistry to identify nutrient deficiencies impairing brain function
Chiropractic care to support structural and neurological function alongside brain training

Frequently Asked Questions

What people ask about Neurofeedback

Meditation relies on conscious effort and practice over time. Neurofeedback provides direct, real-time feedback from your own brain activity, which can accelerate the learning process because your brain receives immediate information about what is working. The two approaches can complement each other well — neurofeedback tends to make meditation easier and more effective for many people.

No referral is required. You can book directly with our team at Wave Functional Health to begin with a brain mapping assessment. We will discuss your history, symptoms, and goals before designing your protocol.

This varies by individual and by goal. Some patients notice initial changes within a handful of sessions while lasting results typically build over 20 to 40 sessions. Your brain mapping assessment will help us give you a more specific recommendation based on your starting point and what you are working toward.

Yes. Neurofeedback is widely used to support children with attention, learning, and emotional regulation challenges. The sessions are engaging and non-invasive, making them well suited to younger patients. We will discuss age-appropriate protocols during your initial consultation.

Neurofeedback is designed to complement your existing care, not replace it. We will work with you to integrate it alongside any current chiropractic, nutritional, or functional medicine protocols at Wave. In most cases the combination produces better outcomes than either approach alone.

Medicare does not currently rebate neurofeedback in Australia. Some private health funds may provide partial rebates depending on your level of cover and the fund provider. We recommend checking with your insurer directly. Our team can provide a receipt with the appropriate item codes for you to lodge a claim if applicable.
